Approved by the Ministry of Economic Development (MiSE) in the context of the 2012 Defence Plan, the power intensive project of Terna will increase the security of the electrical systems in the country’s major islands by installing 40 MW of energy storage. The first Phase of the project, called “Storage Lab”, is currently under development and consists in the installation of two multi-technology plants (using various storage technologies and 8 different commercial products) that will supply a total of 16 MW, divided between Sicily and Sardinia.

ENGIE Eps has played an important role in this Terna project, acting as a systems provider for General Electric, which successfully completed the commissioning and testing phases in March 2016.
